NOLA BON VIVANT TOURS is a one woman operation. Laura Scariano, a native New Orleanian, started this company to provide private walking tours for visitors to her beloved home town. She wants to make sure you have a special time in New Orleans and will come back again and again, having a wonderful experience and exploring just a little bit more each time you are here.
Your licensed New Orleans tour guide Laura was born and raised in New Orleans. She is a descendant of French, German, Irish, Scottish, English and Sicilian Italian settlers who came to New Orleans in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Her ancestors' tombs can be found in several cemeteries throughout the city. As she takes you through the 300 year history of New Orleans, she can also throw in some personal stories of her family’s history here as well.
Laura studied Design at the University of Pennsylvania and has a minor in art history. With a thorough knowledge of architecture history, she can guide you through the beautiful historic areas of the city and show you our architectural gems.
Throughout her career, Laura has worked on restoring several historic landmarked homes in New York City. It is wonderful to see the ongoing preservation and restoration efforts throughout New Orleans. Laura has lived and worked abroad in Berlin, Germany. If you would like a tour in some not-so-perfect German, she would be happy to oblige.
In 1999 Laura moved to NYC to learn the art of improvisational jazz tap dance. She had the opportunity to spend time mentoring under the legendary Hoofers and Copasetics jazz tap dance masters. Laura occasionally hops on stage to perform with local jazz musicians here in New Orleans.
Laura has practiced ceramics since 1995 when she took her first sculpture class in college. She makes wheel thrown pottery, porcelain jewelry, as well as larger hand built ceramic sculptures. She learned wheel throwing at community studios in NYC. She studied glaze chemistry and makes her own glazes. You can sometimes find Laura around town at the local art markets.
Laura would love to guide you through her hometown and make sure you have a wonderful time while you are visiting New Orleans.
